We care about your eyecare.

About your eye test

Our eye examinations usually last forty minutes, we will, however, advise you if you require any specific tests and how long these may take. The eye examination, primarily, is to ascertain if any vision correction is required, however, we also check for any potential eye disease such as Glaucoma, Cataracts and Macular degeneration, to name a few.

Our equipment includes an OCT and Digital Imaging, both of which allows us to look within the eye direct to the cell layers, so even the smallest abnormalities can be detected, recorded and compared in future checks.

Combining this with modern examination techniques, we can ensure all is done to help prevent unnecessary deterioration to your sight and eye health.

Free Eye Tests

Some patients are eligible for free sight tests and help towards the cost of their spectacles from the National Health Service (NHS). Such categories include people 16 years of age and under, over 60 years of age, diabetics, people over the age of 40 years with a family history of glaucoma, as well as those receiving Income Support, Family Credit and other benefits. There are some restrictions on how often you can apply for NHS support and our staff can advise you of the limits that apply to you.

Always valuing great vision.

Our testing

Our tailored 3-step testing process ensures you receive the best quality eyecare

OCT – Optical Coherence Tomography

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive test that uses light waves to take a 3D picture of the light-sensitive tissue lining the back of the eye.It is an advanced piece of technology that looks at the cell layers and so can determine some problems before they become apparent by any other means.

These measurements help with early detection, diagnosis and treatment guidance for retinal diseases and conditions including:

  • Age-related macular changes
  • Investigating Chronic Glaucoma
  • Acute Glaucoma
  • Central serous retinopathy
  • Diabetic eye related disease
  • Macular edema
  • Macular hole
  • Vitreomacular Traction

The results from the scan will be shown during your appointment with the Optometrist, then stored and can be recalled, enabling these to be compared from one visit to the next. This allows even the most subtle changes to be detected aiding in early diagnosis.

Optomap - Digital Imaging

The benefits of having an optomap ultra-widefield retinal image taken are:

  • Optomap facilitates early protection from vision impairment or blindness
  • Early detection of life-threatening diseases like cancer, stroke, and cardiovascular disease
  • Age-related macular changes
  • Central serous retinopathy
  • Diabetic eye related disease
  • Macular oedema
  • Macular hole

The unique Optomap ultra-widefield view helps your eye care practitioner detect early signs of retinal disease more effectively and efficiently than with traditional eye exams.

Early detection means successful treatments can be administered and reduces the risk to your sight and health.

Visual Fields Test

A visual field test is designed to analyse the sensitivity of the eye, as well as the extent of the peripheral vision. The visual field test is mainly used to monitor damage to the nerve fibre at the back of the eye, caused by glaucoma, though other ocular conditions may also be investigated.During the test you are presented with a series of flashing lights on a bowl-shaped screen. The lights may vary in brightness and will appear in different positions in your field of vision. You will be asked to press a button each time you see a flash of light and the machine records what you see. Each flash will be checked several times, so if you make a mistake this will be corrected.

The machines we currently use are:

  • Humphrey Field Analyzer 720i
  • Humphrey Field Analyzer 740
